Nurturing the next generation of independent thinkers since 1947, Lallubhai Motilal College of Pharmacy (LMCP) is one of the most iconic and prolific Pharmacy Institute in Gujarat. With the successful streak of over 7 decades, the institute is managed by Ahmedabad Education Society (AES) which is contributing to the educational fraternity in Gujarat state since 1935. AES has 300 dedicated members comprising of social and influential business leaders. This foundation carries the legacy of around 80 years and is considered to be an educational hub in Ahmedabad offering Arts, Commerce, Science, Pharmacy, Architecture, Planning, Business Administration, Computer Application, Management and more.
L. M. College of Pharmacy is affiliated to Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Ahmedabad. Approved by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi (accredited by NAAC ‘A’ Grade), the institute drives a proclaimed goal to deliver excellence in Pharmaceutical Sciences and sculpt future pharmacists.
Chronicle of the dawn
The tone of the institute was set in 1947 by the family of Late Seth Sri Lallubhai Motilal after whom the institute has its name with a precious donation of INR 3.0 Lakhs and commenced Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) program in the same year. Late Shri Syamaprasad Mukherjee a leading politician, barrister, and academician played an instrumental role in setting the foundation stone of the institute.

Distinctive Offerings to Explore Pharmaceutical Sciences
The journey of LMCP began way back in 1947 by initiating Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) program. In the quest of serving the nation, the institute incorporated the Diploma in Pharmacy (D. Pharm) program in 1952 followed by Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm) in 1957. To strengthen a pharmacist for clinical services, the institute introduced Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) in 2016. LMCP believes in student-centric pedagogy methodologies to inculcate great education values.
Realizing True Potential
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has ranked L M College of Pharmacy amongst top 25 Pharmacy Institutes in India for four consecutive years in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 at the National level with the ranking of 12, 23, 24 and 31 respectively.
To keep the pinnacle going, the college effectively arranges various professional fiestas like GTU Central Tech-fest, Rajnibhai Patel PharmaInnova Award for M. Pharm dissertation, State Chapter of Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA) and many more. In the quest of marching towards excellence, the college is keeping live contact with the industry by signing MoUs for training, placement and research projects. The live MoUs include Troikaa Pharmaceuticals, Emcure Pharmaceuticals, Cadila Healthcare Ltd, Zydus Hospitals, B. V. Patel PERD Center, etc.
When it comes to staff members, LMCP has 32 faculty members out of which 28 faculties hold Doctor of Philosophy degree and remaining are on course for acquiring this prestigious degree. The faculty members at LMCP pledge to use their immense experience and research in the pedagogy methodologies to inculcate greater education values.
L M College of Pharmacy is the only Pharmacy Institute in the country to secure financial assistance from NITI AAYOG’s ATAL INNOVATION MISSION to set up the ‘ATAL INCUBATION CENTRE’. AIC is an inimitable facility which provides a platform for the stakeholders- i.e. students, early entrepreneurs, start-ups- to convert their innovative ideas into successful business proposals and thus, fostering entrepreneurship in the field of pharmaceuticals and healthcare. College is serving as a nodal center for developing research ideas into workable projects under Students Startup Innovation Policy (SSIP) of Gujarat State Government.
The Dizzying Heights
The zeal of the faculties and students leads to astounding awards and recognitions at various levels. The college has come out with flying colors at State, National, and International events. Some of the conspicuous awards comprise of the prominent ‘Rajnibhai V. Patel PharmInnova Award for M. Pharm and Ph.D., GTU topper ranks and Gold medals, International Experience program, etc. The learners are maneuvered and guided for national-level competitive examinations like GATE, GPAT, NIPER-JEE, etc and have earned a magnificent triumph bringing glory to the college. The college keeps the knack of motivating the pupils to compete in extra- and co-curricular activities at various levels, which are invariably dominated by the students of LMCP.
LMCP was laudably accredited with ‘A’ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). LMCP has gained research grants from various state and central Government agencies of approximately INR 30 Crores. Research credentials of the college comprise of about 10 granted patents, 20 applied patents, and over 2000 publications of research in top-notch journals. The college stands foremost when it comes to organizing co-curricular and professional activities like seminars and conferences by associating with professional organizations like IPA, APTI, PCI and financial support from various Government agencies.

Dr. Amarlal H Kalro
Dr. Amarlal H Kalro is a spearheading figure of LMCP with experience of over 45 years in academic institutions in India and abroad. He has played an instrumental role in establishing educational institutions and laying policies for the same. Currently, he is Academic Advisor to Ahmedabad Education Society (AES). He has served as Provost of Ahmedabad University (July 2009 – September 2014). He was a member of the Second Administrative Reforms Commission (2005-2009) Government of India. He was Director, Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode from November 1998 to February 2004. Before that, he was Assistant Professor – Professor (1970-1998), Dean (1984-1987), and Chairman, Ravi J Mathai Centre for Educational Innovation (1994-1998) at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. He was Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota (1969-1970).
An alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, Dr. Kalro also pursued MS and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, the USA in 1967 and 1969 respectively. He holds several scholastic and teaching excellence awards. He has contributed immensely to the betterment of education with his active involvement in various capacities with multiple prestigious institutes throughout the country.
Dr. Kalro was presented “The Life Time Achievement Award” by The Indian Society of Operations Management in December 2006, and awards from Ahmedabad Management Association, Ahmedabad (February 2007) and School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi (April 2009) for his “Contributions to Management”. He has also served as Director, Board of Directors, and many other prestigious positions in diverse committees of many companies.
